Pastora Orantes Killed, Demetrius Massey Detained in Hawthorne Accident

 
HAWTHORNE, CA (October 22, 2020) — A 76-year-old woman died in Monday’s hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Prairie Avenue Near West 118th Street.
 
According to police, the 76-year-old woman crossing Prairie Avenue died when a 2017 Honda Civic struck her around 9:25 p.m. Authorities have identified her as Pastora Ortiz Orantes.
 
Failing to render aid, Demetrius Blacky Massey continued northbound along Prairie Avenue and parked the vehicle somewhere in Torrance.
 
However, nearly two hours later, the 21-year-old Palmdale man returned to the scene and admitted to participating in the fatal incident.
 
Not long after, police officers arrested him on suspicion of hit-and-run.
