Man Struck and Killed by Union Pacific Freight Train in Accident on Sierra Highway [Lancaster, CA]
Fatal Train and Pedestrian Crash on Sierra Highway at Palmdale Boulevard in Lancaster
LANCASTER, CA (October 3, 2020) – Authorities confirmed that a Union Pacific freight train struck and killed a man in an accident on Sierra Highway on Saturday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at Palmdale Boulevard just after 2:00 PM.
Based on a report, the man walked in front of a Union Pacific freight train and caused the collision.
As a result, an attending coroner declared the victim dead at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victim’s identity pending kin notification.
Due to the accident, Metrolink canceled commuter trains between Lancaster and Los Angeles for two hours.
At this time, the case remains under investigation. However, the CHP released an initial assessment showing the incident was believed to be an accident.
