Woman Killed in Red-Light Crash on Avenue J [Lancaster, CA]
DUI Suspected in Fatal Red-Light Crash on Avenue J near Challenger Way in Lancaster
LANCASTER, CA (October 5, 2020) – Police confirmed that a woman died in a red-light crash on Avenue J on Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Challenger Way at approximately 10:47 PM.
Based on a report, two vehicles collided at the intersection. A Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on Challenger Way, approaching Avenue J when it failed to stop at the red light. Subsequently, it collided with a Honda Civic that was making a left turn to eastbound Avenue J from traveling southbound on Challenger Way.
As a result, crews transported both occupants in the Ford Fusion to Antelope Valley Hospital, where the female passenger died. Authorities did not release her name, pending next of kin notification. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said the victim was in her 20s.
The Lancaster Sheriff’s Station said alcohol/drugs appear to be a factor in the collision. Officers ask anyone with information regarding this collision to contact the traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
At this point, an investigation into the case is still ongoing.
