One Killed in Trolley Accident on Merlin Drive [San Diego, CA]
Car Struck by Trolley in Fatal Crash on Merlin Drive near Imperial Avenue in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 28, 2020) – Police confirmed that one person died in an accident involving a trolley on Merlin Drive on late Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Imperial Avenue at approximately 11:45 PM.
Based on a report, the victim was driving a Toyota Prius when he drove past a trolley crossing gate. Subsequently, an eastbound trolley struck his car. The impact pushed the vehicle about 100 feet down the tracks.
San Diego police said the incident killed the victim. Officers only identified him as a 22-year-old man.
Investigators did not release the cause of the crash. At this point, an investigation is still ongoing.
