Fiery Multi-Car Accident at 70th Street Sends 6 to Hospitals
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 11, 2020) — A multi-vehicle crash at 70th Street and El Cajon Boulevard sent six people to a hospital Wednesday night.
According to San Diego Police Officer John Buttle, the accident took place around 9:10 p.m.
Telling from evidence at the scene, investigators believe a 63-year-old man in a 2016 Mercedes E400 had suffered an unknown medical issue while traveling eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard.
Subsequently, the Mercedes slammed into the rear of a 2015 Ford Fusion in the northbound turn lane to 70th Street.
Due to the impact, both vehicles traveled to the westbound lanes, where they collided with a Nissan Rogue SUV, a Honda Civic and a BMW.
At some point during the mayhem, the Ford ruptured into flames, causing second and third-degree burns to two 22-year-old women trapped inside.
With haste, paramedics brought the two women to nearby hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Several other medical professionals transported the 20-year-old female driver of the Nissan, the 63-year-old BMW male driver and the Mercedes driver to nearby hospitals.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
