Oscar Martinez Killed in Pedestrian Accident on 36th Street [Tucson, AZ]
Pedestrian Killed in Parking Lot Accident on West 36th Street in Tucson
TUCSON, AZ (September 6, 2020) – Police identified Oscar Martinez as the person who died in a pedestrian accident on West 36th Street on Sunday evening.
According to the Tucson Police Department, the accident happened at the Trailhead Parking lot at approximately 9:30 PM.
Based on a report, a white 2019 Dodge Ram was seen traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on 36th Street prior to the crash. It then entered the parking lot area located at the dead-end of the street, where Martinez and a group of pedestrians were standing next to a parked vehicle. Due to an unknown reason, the Ram struck the victim and another pedestrian before it continued westbound over large boulders. Subsequently, it continued traveling into the desert and rolled onto its roof.
As a result, 42-year-old Oscar Zazueta Martinez died at the scene. Tucson Fire Department personnel treated three other pedestrians and three occupants of the pickup.
DUI was not a factor in the crash. Roadway evidence shows that the Ram’s brakes were functioning, and speed was much higher than the posted speed limit. At this time, an investigation remains ongoing.
