Fatal Bakersfield DUI Accident on Highway 99
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 25, 2020) — A Bakersfield man died Saturday night following a DUI accident on Highway 99 near Highway 166.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m. just before officers responded and found a 2007 Mercedes and a big rig involved.
Upon arriving, investigators learned that the Mercedes driver pulled over to the right shoulder before abruptly accelerating to the left and into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.
Both vehicles collided, sending the Mercedes near the center median and the semi-truck in the No. 1 and 2 lanes.
Soon after, officials pronounced one man dead at the scene, and a woman sustained unknown injuries and received care at Kern Medical.
According to the investigation, CHP officers determined that alcohol played a role in the accident.
