Brent Sturgeon Killed in Two-Car Crash on North Harbor Drive [San Diego, CA]
Brent Sturgeon Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision on North Harbor Drive Near West Laurel Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 21, 2020) — A Spring Valley man died in Wednesday’s two-vehicle accident on North Harbor Drive near West Laurel Street.
According to a U.S. Navy spokeswoman, Petty Officer Brent Sturgeon had lost control of his Subaru sedan while traveling westbound in the 2700 block of North Harbor Drive.
For unknown reasons, Sturgeon’s Subaru clipped the back of a pickup truck around 10:30 a.m. and veered off the road. It subsequently traveled toward a center median, where it struck a concrete light standard.
Due to the force of the impact, his four-door sedan sheared off the light pole before it came to a rest in the westbound lane, approximately 150 feet away from the pole.
The Kentucky native, whose wife is expecting their second child, became trapped in the wreckage, urging firefighters to cut the sedan’s roof in order to free him; however, in spite of life-saving efforts, the 30-year-old Navy sailor died at the scene.
As for the pickup truck driver, he was not hurt in the crash.
