75-Year-Old Man Dies in Fiery Car Accident on Bodega Avenue [Petaluma, CA]
Gas Tanker Truck Involved in Deadly Crash on Bodega Avenue and Pepper Road in Petaluma
PETALUMA, CA (August 18, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 75-year-old man died in a car accident on Bodega Avenue on Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Pepper Road at approximately 6:20 AM.
Based on a report, the Sonoma man was driving a Ford Explorer truck at the time of the crash. Due to an unknown reason, he stopped at a T-intersection on Pepper Road and began turning left onto eastbound Bodega Avenue.
Consequently, he drove directly in the path of the fuel tanker, hitting its front right side. Subsequently, the Ford went off the roadway and into a dirt embankment, where it overturned. A small fire that started, which a passing man in a garbage truck quickly put out.
As a result, the elderly man died from the impact of the crash. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office did not yet release his name pending kin notification.
At this point, no other information was available. However, officers are asking anybody with information to contact CHP or Petaluma Police.
