Marcos Murrieta Dies in Motorcycle Accident on Highway 74 Near El Cariso Road
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (August 17, 2020) — A Friday evening motorcycle accident on Highway 74 near El Cariso Road claimed a Menifee man’s life.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 36-year-old motorcyclist had lost control of his motorcycle for unknown reasons while traveling on the Ortega Highway.
CHP officers say Marcos Murrieta died around 6:31 p.m. when his 2014 Kawasaki, heading west on Highway 74, went over the centerline as he tackled a curve at a high rate of speed.
Subsequently, his Kawasaki veered into the path of an oncoming 2010 Toyota Prius traveling about 45 mph.
There, Murrieta and the Toyota collided, killing Murrieta at the scene.
As for the 40-year-old resident operating the Prius, he or she escaped harm.
At this time, information surrounding other factors that might have contributed to the accident is not available. However, any witnesses looking to help authorities with the investigation, please call the department.
