DUI Driver Hits Elderly Man in Wheelchair on El Cajon Boulevard near West Washington Avenue in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (August 10, 2020) – A 69-year-old man in an electric wheelchair suffered serious injuries in a DUI crash on El Cajon Boulevard on late Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at the intersection of West Washington Avenue around 11:35 PM.
Based on a report, the victim crossed El Cajon Boulevard against a red pedestrian crossing signal. As a result, a vehicle running eastbound struck him. As a result, the victim was thrown onto the roadway near the center divider.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and took the unconscious victim to a hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Police later arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
