San Diego Firefighter Ryan Ferrara Killed in DUI Crash on Piping Rock Lane [El Cajon, CA]
One Killed, One Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Piping Rock Lane near East County Drive in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (July 18, 2020) – Police identified San Diego firefighter Ryan Ferrara as the rider who got killed in a suspected DUI crash on Piping Rock Lane on Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at East County Drive around 9:30 PM.
Based on a report, 39-year-old Ryan Ferrara was riding on the back of a motorcycle when the accident occurred. Officials said the 2018 Harley Davidson was passing a parked car on the shoulder of the road when the driver lost control. Consequently, the motorcycle rolled over and collided with the road before it slammed into the parked vehicle. The impact ejected both riders from the bike.
San Diego fire officials transported Ferrara to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died due to severe injuries. In addition, they also rushed the motorcycle driver to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment.
Investigators said alcohol or drug impairment were suspected factors in the collision. At this time, officials continue to gather additional information related to the case.
