Man Dies in Pedestrian Accident on Second Street and East Madison Avenue [El Cajon, CA]
Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Truck in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (July 10, 2020) — A driver fatally struck a person in a pedestrian accident on Second Street and East Madison Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to El Cajon Police Lt. Jason Taub, the tragedy struck around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection.
Investigators believe the pedestrian, described as an elderly man, tried crossing the street from west to east. While walking outside of a marked crosswalk, in between stopped vehicles, an oncoming southbound Ford F-150 struck him in the left-hand turn lane.
Per Taub, the Ford driver had a green traffic light when the pedestrian stepped in front of the moving vehicle. However, details about the truck’s speed of travel remain unclear.
Soon after, paramedics arrived and shuttled the victim to a nearby hospital where he died.
The Ford driver stayed back and cooperated with police investigators.
Alcohol has been ruled out as a possible source of the accident; however, the case remains open as authorities determine where the fault resides.
Our sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim. We hope you find comfort and strength in those around you.
