2 Killed, 12 Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 97 [Entiat, WA]
Three Vehicles Involved in Deadly Head-On Accident in Entiat
ENTIAT, WA (June 7, 2020) – Emergency crews confirmed that two people died and 12 others were injured in a head-on crash on Highway 97 on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened on the east side of the Columbia River.
Reports showed that a van carrying nine people was heading south on the highway when it veered into oncoming traffic. As a result, it collided head-on with a Ford pickup truck towing a camping trailer. In addition, the truck overturned before it crashed into a southbound GMC pickup towing a boat that was behind the van.
Crews pronounced the 29-year-old driver of the van and a passenger dead at the scene. They did not release their names pending kin notification. Seven other passengers suffered injuries. Medics took them to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. The driver and passenger in the Ford, and the 72-year-old driver and two passengers in the GMC all suffered injuries. All five were taken to Central Washington Hospital.
Police did not cite the reason why the van veered into the wrong way. However, they are still investigating the crash.
