14-Year-Old Akadian Frankopoulos Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident [Las Vegas, NV]
Akadian Frankopoulos Killed, Crystal Helm Detained Following Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on East Tropicana Avenue at Morris Street
LAS VEGAS, NV (April 30, 3030)—A 14-year-old boy died following Monday’s hit-and-run pedestrian accident on East Tropicana Avenue at Morris Street.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. David Gordon, Akadian Frankopoulos was on his way home from the park when the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m.
Per records, Crystal Helm failed to yield to the right-of-way when she struck Frankopoulos with her red 2002 Acura MDX. According to the LVMPD, Helm struck the boy in a marked crosswalk.
Following the crash, the 34-year-old fled left the scene, but was subsequently detained by officers after someone close to her called Pep Boys to tow her car home.
In their investigation, detectives learned that Helm tried to stop the car to avoid an accident, yet her attempts fell short.
When on duty workers in a Community Ambulance witnessed the crash Monday night, they immediately contacted police. Paramedics then shuttled Frankopoulos to Sunrise Hospital where he died.
Helm faces charges of failing to yield to a pedestrian and duty to stop at the scene of an accident.
Meanwhile, family and friends are remembering Frankopoulos and have recently gathered for a vigil to celebrate his life. Anyone wishing to help the family should visit his GoFundMe page.
