Two-Car Collision in Brea Ends Fatally
BREA, CA (March 23, 2020) — A two-car accident on South Brea Canyon Road near the 57 Freeway resulted in a fatality Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities have yet to identify the man who died in the two-car accident, which also injured another driver.
The incident unfolded in the unincorporated part of Brea. Authorities learned that around 8 a.m., a Walnut man in a Honda Civic was traveling south on South Brea Canyon Road when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons. CHP Officer John DeMatteo further described the car crossing into the northbound lanes where it struck a northbound Nissan van.
Due to the severe nature of the crash, the Honda Civic driver died at the scene and the 45-year-old man operating the van sustained minor injuries.
CHP officers subsequently closed the northbound and southbound lanes around 8:02 a.m. before reopening them at 12:59 p.m.
The crash, which occurred near the Los Angeles and Orange County border, requires further investigation in order for authorities to determine the liabilities.
